MANTIS Installation
Dear MANTIS-user,
these instructions are to impart needful information on how to install the MANTIS software.
At the end of each section and at
your disposal, there is an index in table form. Herein, you can
branch to the section required by a mouseclick on the
corresponding entry.
In the table, a cursive entry indicates the topic opened.
Beyond this, the manual offers more useful links, either to
branch to another relevant section within this manual or to
further documentations.
Here, too, one mouseclick on the highlighted textlink will do and
the section or document is being opened.
The installation procedure guides you through each neccessary reference and selection criteria by monitor displays accordingly.
Please, pay carefully attention to the contents of displays making correct selections respectively, entries as, otherwise, possibly a faulty MANTIS installation could be carried out.
Before the MANTIS installation you should have a look at the section "Hardware minimum requirements" (one mouseclick and here we are...).
Stand-alone workstation
Computer: Pentium, 64MB
Hard disk: >3,5 GB ( 2 partitions, 2nd partition must be 500 MB)
the 2nd partition is not necessary for WIN- with entry FAT32 (see operating system)
CD-ROM drive: 24x speed
Floppy disk: 3.5
Graphics card: 1280x1024 or 1024x768, 4MB , 256 colours
Monitor: 1280x1024, 17 (20is recommended)
Keybord: Standard MF 102

Operating system: WIN-NT (is recommended) (from version 4.0 onwards, 64MB RAM

MANTIS Installation, Updating and Uninstallation (in general)
This section contains definitions of the installation, uninstallation, the updating by MANTIS program CDs and delta/updating via the internet (in preparation).
Types of Installation
Installs MANTIS on stand-alone or server units
.Workstation / Server-client (server = workstation)
Stand-alone and server units, which represent workstations, are the same; Software and data are locally installed and a desktop link as well as the MANTIS program group created.
Workstation / Server-client (server no workstation)
Software and data are installed on the server unit via the first client using the network and, moreover, network access paths on the client unit as well as a desktop link and the MANTIS program group are created.
Important!
Whilst the server installation procedure select correct network access paths
(see display window "Selection of Drive 1" + "...2").Network paths can never be local diskdrives of the client unit (e.g.: drive C).
"Client"
Creates network access paths on client units, which enable access to the MANTIS server unit and, moreover, desktop links and the MANTIS program group.
Important!
Whilst the client installation procedure select correct network access paths
(see display window "Selection of Drive 1" + "...2").Network paths can never be local diskdrives of the client unit (e.g.: drive C).
A local and partial installation is made; working with MANTIS catalogue images can only be read from the MANTIS CD permanently kept in the CD-ROM-drive.
MANTIS Program group:
Without AGU, Standard Hardware, MAN parts (see annex "AGU", "Standard Hardware", "MAN parts" (annex on MAN parts in preperation)) as to be called up via the menuebar at every level of the MANTIS application.
MANTIS Updating
By regularly coming update-CDs (each update-CD is equivalent to a full release).
Deltaupdating via the Internet (in preperation)
Delta updates are going to be proceeded by the internet.
Uninstalling MANTIS
Uninstalling stand-alone and server units
Erases the MANTIS software, -data, -program group and -desktop links.
Erases MANTIS access paths, -program group and -desktop links.
Zur MANTIS-Installation in der Netzwerkumgebung ist es unbedingt notwendig, die notwendigen Voraussetzungen zu schaffen.
Installing the MANTIS software assumes explicit specialized knowledge of the network subject matter.
Server unit
Allocation of a folder on the local volume (e. g.: MANHOME).
Release of the folder allocated.
Opening the network environment access to the computer, respectively search for the computer name resolved by DNS.
Link of the folder \\Computer name\MANHOME as a network volume, e. g.: volume m. Please, make sure that there is a tick in option Reconnect at logon.
Install MANTIS on volume m linked.
Always install MANTIS on volume m mapped.Client unit
Search for the server unit and map the folder MANHOME as a network volume as done on the server unit accordingly.
Carry out the installation of MANTIS selecting the network volume mapped.
Workstation / Server-client (server unit = workstation)
Primar installations on stand-alone and server units (server = workstation)
Were network-specific requirements created as described in topic 'Network environment'?

MANTIS Program group
The program group "MANTIS" was created and put into the taskbar.
Desktop Link
The installation of MANTIS, Release 5, creates a topical desktop link to start MANTIS.
Workstation / Server-client (server unit, no workstation)
The MANTIS installation on a dedicated server unit (network server unit, no workstation) has exclusively to be carried out via the first MANTIS client unit of the network.
Were network-specific requirements created as described in topic 'Network environment'?
Before the primary MANTIS installation on a dedicated server unit preliminary make sure that:
- a network link between client units and the server unit was installed,
- network drives were mapped,
- unrestricted read-/write permissions for each client unit on all areas of the server unit reserved for MANTIS were given
(includes permissions to create files also, applying to temp-folder, too)
Installing MANTIS the first time or reinstalling MANTIS check if administrator permissions are assumed and access to system by administrator-ID (necessary in the Windows NT-, 2000- and XP-environment).
Primary installation on a server unit (dedicated server unit, no workstation)
Opening the Windows explorer start of file:

MANTIS Program group
The program group "MANTIS" was created and put into the taskbar.
Desktop Link
The installation of MANTIS, Release 5, creates a topical desktop link to start MANTIS.
By regularly coming update-CDs.
Each update-CD equals a full release, which means starting the installation the entire PCīs or server unitīs MANTIS software and database is erased (without file MANTIS.INI and user-created files (customer database, order forms and user-defined type base) and, moreover, the complete software and actualized data loaded from the update-CD.
Installing MANTIS the first time or reinstalling MANTIS check if administrator permissions are assumed and access to system by administrator-ID (necessary in the Windows NT-, 2000- and XP-environment).
Update procedure:
Either to start in the taskbar:
Start, Programs, MANTIS, CD-Update
or by doubleclicking on icon 'CD-Update' in the MANTIS program group.
Update installation: 'Workstation / Server-client' and 'CD-Installation'
By menue navigated installation procedure displays again (as described in sections "Installation of Workstation / Server-client" and "CD-Installation")
Update installation "Client"
Client units do not have to be updated after MANTIS primary or reinstallations.
If neccessary (e.g.: indroducing new software releases) MANTIS users are going to be notified in time regarding the method.
During the update routine menue navigated installation procedure displays are shown as described in section "Installation of Client".
Important:
In window "Selection of type of installation" check strictly if entry exists respectivly, if entry is correct. If this is not the case fill in option by a mouseclick as requested and continue clicking on < Next > as described.
Select and confirm correct drives in displays "Selection of drive 1 & 2" also if neccessary.
Delta-updating via the internet (in preperation)
Delta updates are going to be proceeded via the internet (in preparation).
Uninstalling stand-alone and server units
Either to start in the taskbar:
Start, Programs, MANTIS, CD-Update
or by doubleclicking on icon 'Uninstall MANTIS' in the MANTIS program group.
Select Uninstall Method
Automatic, < Next > (all files are uninstalled).
Custom, < Next > (select files, software areas and/or components to be uninstalled. Only to be carried out if specifically instructed by the MANTIS Hotline).
Perfom Uninstall
Click on < Finish >.
Perform Uninstall
Visual display that files are just removed.
MANTIS Uninstaller
After the erasure both of the MANTIS software and data display of the MANTIS Uninstaller.
A mouseclick on < OK > merely closes display.
Delete Rest
User-defined files (customer base, order forms and configuration file Mantis.ini) must be seperately erased as described below if neccessary. Expert Acess entries of the MANTIS application remain intact.
Important!
Save both the customer base and order forms on, for instance, a formatted diskette before carrying out 'Delete Rest' in order to use files again after MANTIS was reinstalled.
Customer base, on stand-alone/server units: C:\Mantis\Userdata\Customer.dat
Order forms, on stand-alone/server units: C:\Mantis\Userdata\*.ord
After MANTIS was reinstalled put customer base and order forms into analogical folder again.
Program group MANTIS
A mouseclick on "Delete Rest":
Password
Input of password "madonna", < OK >...
... and user-defined files (customer base, order forms), configuration file Mantis.ini, the MANTIS-desktop link and MANTIS program group are erased.
ATTENTION!
This procedure is irreversible!
Users with systems embedded in the Windows NT-, 2000- or XP-environment require full administrator permissions to reinstall MANTIS.
Either to start in the taskbar:
Start, Programs, MANTIS, CD-Update
or by doubleclicking on icon 'Uninstall MANTIS' in the MANTIS program group.
Select Uninstall Method
Automatic, < Next > (all files are uninstalled).
Custom, < Next > (select files, software areas and/or components to be uninstalled. Only to be carried out if specifically instructed by the MANTIS Hotline).
Perfom Uninstall
Click on < Finish >.
Perform Uninstall
Visual display that files are just removed.
